1987
The story of the Consuelo Foundation goes back to October 1987 with the establishing of Child and Family Service Philippines by Patti Lyons, then with Child and Family Service Hawai‘i, and Danny Urquico, then a volunteer working with at-risk youth in the Philippines.. CFSPI struggled with funding until Patti met Consuelo Zobel Alger, a wealthy Filipina who had retired in Hawai‘i. Inspired by the plight Baguio street children and the needs of the Baguio shelter, Consuelo became CFSPI's main benefactress. That same year, CFSPI opened its first program, the Consuelo Zobel Alger Home, a residential center for street children in Baguio City.

1988
Having found inspiration in the children she was helping, and in an act of extraordinary grace, Consuelo Zobel Alger created Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation (CZAF) in 1988 to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged children, women and families in the Philippines and Hawai‘i.

Established as a private operating foundation under U.S. laws, and with headquarters in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, the Foundation operates programs either directly with its own personnel or by contracting other organizations.

1993
The Foundation established a branch office in the Philippines to manage its Philippine operations. Its Philippine Branch supports programs for the prevention of abuse, the protection and recovery of victims of abuse, and the creation of opportunities for disadvantaged children, women and families.

As a strategy to further its mission, Consuelo Foundation forged an alliance with the International Youth Foundation and established the Children and Youth Foundation of the Philippines (CYFP), a Philippine-registered non-stock, nonprofit foundation.  When the formal partnership ended, CYFP became a subsidiary of Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation.

2002
CYFP became the implementing arm of all the programs of CZAF in the Philippines. Thus, from its original mission and goals that were focused only on children and youth, CYFP embraced the larger vision and mission of Consuelo Foundation. It re-designed its program thrusts and strategies, adopting CZAF’s program goals.

2004
CYFP was renamed Consuelo Foundation, Inc.(CFI).

2005-2006
The CFI Board of Trustees dissolved CFI and transferred all operations and employees to the Philippine Branch.
