This is a very emotional day for me. Ten years ago in May, we purchased this land. And if you the home owners have had challenges during this past nine months, the Foundation too had many challenges too getting this particular project off the ground.
But these challenges that we’ve had in the past don’t really matter any more. Ke Aka Ho’onā is now built… |
And the main reason for us to be here is to celebrate and cheer the 12 families who have achieved the dream of owning their own home. We call you, as we have the others who have come before you “the Olympic Home Builders”.
While it would have been easy to give up in the face of the hot sun, family problems, unexpected financial problems, or health concerns, . . .and I’m sure you had them all, nothing stopped you. You never gave up. |
And as you’re living in these wonderful homes you’ve built, I also hope that you will never give up the values of the benefactress, Consuelo Zobel Alger – the one who made it all possible in the first place. A woman who loved children but who was never able to have any of her own, she wanted neighborhoods and communities where

there was peace and harmony, safety and security, laughter, play between parents and mong rechildren, a place where there was respect and responsibility assident.
