I truly want to thank God for this woman (Consuelo), that He inspired in her heart, gave her a dream, gave her a mission, and a plan to achieve what she has achieved today. . . . I want to thank you folks (the Foundation) for picking up where she left off.

| Consuelo Zobel Alger, our founder and benefactress, who lived in Hawai‘i for many years before she passed away, had a special interest in the native Hawaiian population. She dreamed of helping Hawaiians with affordable housing and in building a community free of violence and substance abuse. On O‘ahu’s Leeward Coast, the community of Wai‘anae became the best choice for her dream, a self-help housing project. Finding a strong sense of community there, Consuelo and the Foundation embarked on creating a neighborhood free of violence and substance abuse in 1991. |
