Board Member
We all welcome Hoyt H. Zia, the newly elected member of the Board of Directors of Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation. Prior to his election as Board member, Hoyt visited several of the Foundation’s programs in the Philippines.

Hoyt H. Zia
Hoyt is currently the Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary of Hawaiian Airlines. Prior to this, he served in several executive positions in Hawaii: Publisher of Hawaii Business magazine at Pacific Basin Communications LLC; Executive Director of the Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC); and Vice President & Associate General Counsel, Amfac/ JMB Hawaii, Inc. He is a member of the Hawaii State Bar Association and the State Bar of California.
In 1975, Hoyt joined the U.S. Marine Corps after completing his B.A. degree at Dartmouth College. He was honorably discharged from the service with the rank of Captain in 1978. After obtaining his J.D. degree from the UCLA School of Law in 1981, he started his practice as an Associate in Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon and subsequently was Senior Division Counsel of Motorola, Inc. His practice in California spanned ten years. He also served as an appointee in the Clinton Administration in the role of Chief Counsel for Export Administration, US Department of Commerce, in Washington, DC.
Since 2001, Hoyt has been active in various community service organizations in Hawaii. His better known involvements are: Chair of the Board of Directors of Child & Family Service (Hawaii’s leader in non-governmental social and human services and advocacy for children and families in need); member of the Hawaii Leadership Council of the American Diabetes Association; and member of the boards of the Hawaii Institute of Public Affairs; the Pacific Asian Affairs Council; the Better Business Bureau, Hawaii Chapter; and the Lanakila Rehabilitation Center Foundation.
Hoyt is married to Leigh-Ann Miyasato, who earned her B.A degree from Stanford and law degree from the University of California at Berkeley and is currently Vice-President for Administration and Finance at Dragon Bridge Capital. The couple has two children. Daughter Emily is a college senior at Wellesley College majoring in English with minor in American Studies and was recently accepted by Teach for America to be one of its corps members upon graduation from Wellesley. Their son Rory, who is a senior at Iolani, was one of the captains of the lolani Cross Country Team this past fall and looks forward to starting college. |
